Dog Tales Charitable Foundation (“DTCF”, “us”, “we”) is committed to protecting your privacy and the confidentiality of your Personal Information (as defined below). DTCF is guided and governed by applicable privacy legislation, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and substantially similar privacy legislation in specific provinces, which regulates our collection, use and disclosure of your Personal Information.
This privacy policy describes how DTCF collects, uses, and discloses your Personal Information. It applies to all Personal Information that you provide to DTCF, including Personal Information that you provide if you donate, that you send us by email, or if you contact us via the website or subscribe to any newsletters. The term “Personal Information” refers to information that identifies you as an individual and is provided to or collected by us. It includes, for example (not all of these are collected by DTCF):
Personal identifiers, such as your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, and signatures.

Internet or other electronic network activity information, such as browser type, Internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, pages viewed on our site.
Professional or employment-related information, such as your professional title and occupation.
Video footage. If ever provided for any reason.

Provide you with tax receipts.
Communicate with you, including impact updates and responding to your inquiries.
To obtain donor input, including by conducting surveys.
To protect our donors, volunteers, and employees against fraud and other types of harm.
For other legal purposes, including to comply with any applicable law, regulation, or valid court order, to prevent and detect fraud, and to defend and enforce our legal rights.
For other purposes with your express consent.
Personal information collected by DTCF (if physical) will be held on our premises in secured offices, as well as in our cloud-based IT systems. No financial information is kept on file by the charity on premises or through online donor processing software and systems.
Consent
When you make a donation by phone, in person or online, sign up to receive information, buy a ticket to an event, or provide input by email or surveys, you consent to us collecting and using your Personal Information to fulfill the donation or request.
You can opt in to hear from the charity on its activities.
We will obtain consent if your information were to be used for any other purpose.
We do not sell, share or trade donor lists of contact lists of any kind.
Please note that we may not be able to offer you some or all of our activity information if you withdraw your consent. This includes event information.
Protecting Personal Information
Your Personal Information is protected by reasonable administrative, physical, and technical security safeguards that are commensurate with the sensitivity and volume of the information.
These include: Restricting access to your Personal Information to a limited number of people. All employees and Board of Directors of DTCF are responsible for protecting donor privacy, confidentiality and security. This obligation remains in effect even after an employee leaves DTCF.
Sharing Personal Information
DTCF does not disclose Personal Information for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with your consent or as required by law.
DTCF may be required to share Personal Information with its employees. All DTCF staff are required to sign a confidentiality agreement when they are hired, which requires them to keep all Personal Information confidential. At this time, there is one staff person.
DTCF may transfer Personal Information to our service providers, agents, vendors or other organizations that provide services to DTCF, for the purposes set out in this policy. These services include those related to your donation, cloud services, processing transactions, email services.
Our service providers are given only the information necessary to perform the required activity. We require our service providers and data processors to have appropriate security procedures and controls in place to protect Personal Information in a manner that is consistent with our Privacy Policy and the security practices and regulations applicable in their country of jurisdiction.
When we store your Personal Information or engage a service provider that operates outside of Canada, your Personal Information may be stored, processed, accessed, or used in another country. In that case, your Personal Information may be subject to the law of the jurisdiction in which it is used or stored, including any law permitting or requiring the disclosure of the information to a government, government agency, court, or law enforcement agency of that jurisdiction. DTCF stores data on servers in Canada and the United States. The countries in which our service providers operate are Canada and the United States.
Retention of Personal Information
Personal information will be retained for the purpose it was collected. We do not keep financial information on file. Donors and subscribers may opt out at any time.
Your Personal Information will be securely destroyed or anonymized (so the information no longer identifies you) on your request. Typically charities are required to keep donor information on file for seven years (not banking) per Canada Revenue Agency guidelines.
Your Privacy Rights
Access and rectification: With some limited exceptions, you have the right to access and update Personal Information held by DTCF. You may also request that DTCF correct, cancel, and stop processing personal information that DTCF holds about you.
Exercising Your Rights
For further assistance, please send us an email to the contact listed below. DTCF will contact you if it needs additional information to confirm your identity in any request for personal information. This may include drivers’ license, passport or other.
Updates
We may make changes to this policy from time to time. Any changes we make will become effective when we post a modified version of the policy on this webpage. If we make any significant changes to the policy, we will post a notice on our website.
By continuing to use our website, donate, or engage in other activities with DTCF after the modified version of the policy has been posted, you are accepting the changes to the policy, subject to any additional requirements which may apply.
